About The 510 Journal
Presented by Chapter 510, the 510 Journal features the work of the Oakland Youth Poet Laureate program, a citywide effort to celebrate literacy through poetry, center youth voice in Oakland’s thriving arts scene, and connect young writers to far-reaching opportunities. The Oakland Public Library coordinates an annual poetry competition, public performances, and mentoring for young artists. Portraits of each poet were created for 510 Journal by featured artist, Robert Trujillo. Saw a poem? Share it with #oaklandyouthpoets.
510 Journal, a publication of Chapter 510, seeks to make young people and their perspectives visible in the daily lives of Oakland residents by placing youth writing in public places. 510 Journal is displayed around the city, in classrooms, libraries, schools, bookstores, cafes, and community-based organizations.
